Cape Girardeau Maternal Mental Health Event Recap: Empowering Mothers

This summer, Erin Randol, MSW, LCSW owner of Sunrise Therapy Services in Cape Girardeau, Missouri served as the keynote speaker at Empowering Mothers: A Free Community Lunch & Learn. The event highlighted a growing need for accessible, local education on maternal mental health, postpartum mental health, and support for overwhelmed mothers.

Maternal mental health conditions affect one in five women in the United States. In Southeast Missouri, that reality shows up every day mothers managing anxiety, postpartum depression, burnout, and emotional overload while continuing to function at a high level.

Hosted at Guardian Primary Care in Cape Girardeau, the event created space for direct, practical education on topics many mothers experience but rarely discuss openly.

Key topics included:

Randol was joined by Andrea Crafton, LPC, PMH-C (Bloom Perinatal Therapy), and Jentsy Philpot, IBCLC, offering a well-rounded perspective on maternal mental health care, therapy, and postpartum support resources in the Cape Girardeau area.

A defining part of the event was the live Q&A, where attendees asked direct questions about postpartum anxiety, mom rage, and how to know when to seek therapy. These conversations reinforced a consistent theme: many women are experiencing symptoms without clear language or understanding of what is happening.

This is exactly where community education matters.

At Sunrise Therapy Services, Randol and her team specialize in therapy for women and mothers across Missouri, including support for postpartum depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD overwhelm, and emotional burnout. The focus is on helping clients understand the patterns underneath their symptoms, not just cope with them, so they can move through daily life with more clarity, calm, and intention.

Events like this extend that work beyond the therapy room.

Access to maternal mental health education in Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri is critical. When women hear accurate information about postpartum mental health, intrusive thoughts, or mom rage, it often creates immediate clarity, and a starting point for change.

Sunrise Therapy Services remains committed to providing maternal mental health resources, therapy services in Missouri, and ongoing community education through future events, workshops, and clinical care.

If you missed this event and are looking for postpartum therapy, maternal mental health support, or help managing anxiety, burnout, or overwhelm as a mom, Sunrise Therapy Services offers virtual therapy for women across Missouri.

Maternal mental health is not something to push through, it is something to understand and address with the right support.
